Once you have completed the assessment and been approved by an RSB coach, you can start taking classes and fighting back against Parkinson’s!
Our current class is a combined level 1/2. Generally, this is for people whose disease is less advanced and who do not require assistance while walking. We hope to add a level 3/4 class in the future. A 3/4 class would be appropriate for people whose disease is more advanced, whose mobility is more limited, and who may use walkers and/or wheelchairs. If you or someone you know is interested in a 3/4 class, please contact us so we can add you to our waiting/email list.
Our 1/2 classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30. We also offer a 1/2 class on two Saturday mornings each month, from 8:00 to 9:00. The Saturday schedule will be posted in advance and is available online, on the Uppercut Gym app, on the Rock Steady Boxing Facebook page, and in print form at the gym.
Although most of our RSB boxers find that attending class twice a week is most beneficial, you may attend class as it fits your schedule. You do not need to sign up in advance; come when you can.
The only equipment you need to purchase is a pair of gel hand wraps. We sell them at the gym for $24. You may use our boxing gloves if you wish, though most people ultimately to decide to purchase their own. Ask an RSB coach for recommendations.
There are several different membership packages from which to choose. Your choice will depend on how often you plan to attend class and how you would like to pay. Please click here for more information on packages and pricing.
Yes. The Parkinson’s Foundation Minnesota and the American Parkinson Disease Association of Minnesota (APDA-MN) each offer financial support for RSB participants in need of assistance. PFM funds are distributed through Uppercut Gym, while the APDA allocates its funds directly to participants. Please talk to or email Kim (email@example.com) for more information.
